Play

To go into play mode, pause and click on the Play/View button. You can also start playing from the cover page of a creation.

This mode is not accessible through the palette menu in edit mode.

# Possessable Objects

# Possess

To possess a possessable object, hover over it with the imp and press R2 or Move Primary Trigger.

Or while orbiting a possessable object, press the Circle button to possess it, even if the imp is hidden.

# Imp Movement

The imp is your own personal cursor, used to interact with objects in both play mode and edit mode. Move your imp tip over an object to “hover” over it, and the imp may interact with it depending on how the creator of the game has set things up.

When using the moves, each move controller will have its own imp, displayed where you are holding the controller. Again, when the imp tip visually looks like it's over an object, you are hovering over that object and may interact with it.

When using VR, with the moves or a gamepad, visual laser beams reach out from the imp tip instead. aim a laser beam at an object to “hover” over and interact with it.

When using a gamepad in non-VR, using the imp depends on your Control Scheme preferences:

# Camera Controls

Note: some controls change depending on the current Control Scheme setting.

# Orbitting

The camera will orbit possessable objects, is moved with the right stick, and adheres to the invert camera preference. (Mm) (Tg)

While the view is not controlled by possessing an object or Camera gadgets, use the controls below to move around the scene.

# Default Gamepad Camera Controls

Use the Left stick to move the view relative to your view (like strafing in a first-person game). Left and right will move left and right. Up and down to move forwards and backwards.

Use shift + Left stick to move the view parallel to your view (like panning/sliding the scene around beind the TV). Left and right will move left or right. Up or down will move up and down.

Use the Right stick to rotate the camera around the imp. Left and right will look left or right, as if you were shaking your head. Up and down will look up and down, as if you were nodding your head.

Sticks Gamepad Camera Controls

Use the Right stick to rotate the camera around the imp. Left and right will look left or right, as if you were shaking your head. Up and down will look up and down, as if you were nodding your head.

Hold shift while using the Left Stick to pan the view left or right, or move forwards or backwards relative to the current view angle. Not holding shift will move the imp.

Push the Right Stick left or right to pan left or right. Hold shift while pushing the Right Stick up or down to pan the view up or down relative to the current view angle.

# Grabcam

Use grabcam mode by hovering the imp over an object or window, and holding R1 to move the imp to its surface. Now you can use the rotate view controls to rotate around the imp.

Also pushing the Left stick left and right will rotate around the imp, and pushing up and down will move towards or away from the imp.

For example, this can be useful for getting closer to a shape you’re about to place in a sculpt.

Hold shift when starting to grabcam to zoom your view to that surface. Using the moves, use shift + Move button to zoom over to the surface the primary imp is hovering over.

# Moves Camera Controls

To move the view with the Move controllers, grab the scene with one of the Move buttons. Now moving that controller will make it appear you are moving the scene with it. And the view will be dragged along to make that work.

Because you can use either Move button to do this, you can alternate to crawl your way across the scene hand over hand. Or use the secondary controller to adjust the view while sculpting or painting with the primary controller.

# Imp Reach

Imp Reach is the distance of your imp from your view, and the scale of the view when using VR.

Tap both Move buttons at the same time to set the “Imp Reach” to the distance of the object visible between them from the camera.

This is super useful for being able to grab far objects, or work on tiny details.

To adjust manually, hold both Move buttons and drag them away from each other to scale down or drag them toward each other to scale up.

When the Imp Reach changes objects to or farther from to the camera will blur momentarily, and the new scale will show briefly inside a circle near that object.
